OUR HISTORY
Prof. Joaquim Silveira created the Labplant during his first steps as a young scientist. These activities began in 1978 during his master studies at CENA-USP, working with nutritional stress in plants, particularly involving nitrate assimilatory reduction and biological N2 fixation in plants exposed to drought.

This research issue continued until begin of 90s when he moved to the Federal University of Ceará. From this period, her Labplant was interested in the study of abiotic stresses, particularly salinity and water deficiency. In the early 2000s he became interested in the oxidative metabolism unbalances generated by abiotic stresses. From 2009 he started to study the photosynthesis efficiency under abiotic stresses involving oxidative metabolism.

But recently, from current years, the Labplant began to focus their research in physiological, biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in the resistance of plants. Among these processes should be highlighted as a central theme the photosynthesis and other associated pathways such as antioxidative protection, photorespiration and photosynthetic assimilation of nitrate.
These processes are studied to maximize photosynthesis under adverse environmental conditions, especially those prevalent in the tropical regions.
